Google tests Whiteboard Animation format in NotebookLM

NotebookLM includes a Video Overviews feature and an expanded Studio panel with Audio Overviews, Video Overviews, Mind Maps, Slide Decks, Infographics, and Reports.

Cinematic Video Overviews launched in March 2026 and are powered by Gemini 3, Nano Banana Pro, and Veo 3.

Two hidden format options appear in the customization UI: "Short" and "Whiteboard Animation."

"Short" targets condensed, social-media-length videos; "Whiteboard Animation" is a dedicated format distinct from the existing Whiteboard visual style.

These two additions would fill gaps for short-form and whiteboard-style videos; Play Books could be added as a source option, and there is no confirmed timeline for either format.
