New Gmail accounts might only get 5GB of storage, but there’s a way around it

Google is testing a new Gmail storage policy for some newly created accounts in select regions, mainly Africa.

New accounts may start with 5GB of free storage instead of the usual 15GB.

Users can restore the full 15GB by adding a phone number, which also helps with account security and recovery.

Existing Gmail accounts are not affected, and Google says the test may not become a global policy.
