Immortality observed? Real-life 'zombie' tissue seen in cold-water sea cucumbers

Researchers found that tissue cut from the cold-water sea cucumber Psolus fabricii stayed alive for more than three years in flowing seawater.

Instead of decaying, the samples closed wounds, changed cell types, showed immune activity, and kept growing.

The tissue came from tube feet, body wall, and tentacles, all surviving in non-sterile seawater far longer than expected.

Published in Science Advances, the study points to a new model for research on regeneration, immunity, and possible biomedical uses.
