Google radically revamps its search box for the first time in 25 years, turning it into an AI-powered agent

Google announced a major 25-year Search overhaul centered on Gemini 3.5 Flash and AI Mode.

Search will expand beyond keywords to support text, images, files, videos, and Chrome tabs, making queries more multimodal.

AI Overviews will support follow-up questions, while background agents can monitor information and take booking actions.

Google is also adding coding-based generated UI and custom mini-app experiences, pushing Search toward a more conversational assistant.
