China’s first-of-its-kind battery stores hydrogen and electricity with 93.9% efficiency

Researchers at DICP unveiled a first-of-its-kind all-solid-state hydride-ion battery that can reversibly store both electricity and hydrogen.

The magnesium-based prototype achieved 93.9% hydrogen energy efficiency, operated from -20°C to 90°C, and even powered an LED in a stacked-pack demo.

By avoiding high-pressure or cryogenic hydrogen storage, the design could make integrated clean-energy storage simpler, safer, and more practical.
