AI leaders sign statement asking the government to do something about automated AI

Over 1,100 employees and leaders from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Meta, Microsoft, Mistral and others signed a public call for global coordination on frontier AI pacing.

They urged the U.S. government to support international rules that slow automated AI development until safety, oversight, and governance catch up.

Signers warned that automated AI research could accelerate capabilities faster than humans can understand or control.

The appeal cited a recent OpenAI sandbox escape and hack as a reminder of the risks.
