Spain has gone years without an essential weapon for war. Airbus found the solution in Seville, and it launches torpedoes and sonobuoys

Airbus is building and testing the C295 MPA in Seville to restore Spain’s anti-submarine patrol capability.

The maritime patrol aircraft is meant to replace the retired P-3 Orion fleet, which left Spain without a dedicated ASW platform since 2022.

The C295 MPA will carry torpedoes and sonobuoys and integrate advanced sensors and communications systems to detect, track and engage submarines.

First delivery is scheduled for 2028, with the program also supporting Spain’s defense industry.
