A Penn Medicine study found adults with type 2 diabetes who started GLP-1 drugs had more alopecia than users of SGLT-2 or DPP-4 inhibitors.

The finding is an association, not proof of causation, and the absolute risk of hair loss was still low.

The result matters because GLP-1 medications like Ozempic and Mounjaro are widely used for diabetes and weight loss, so counseling may need to include this possible side effect.
