US lawmakers demand answers from Instructure after Canvas data breaches

U.S. House lawmakers are investigating Instructure after two Canvas-related breaches exposed millions of students’ personal data.

Committee chair Andrew Garbarino asked CEO Steve Daly to testify and explain what data was stolen, how the company responded, and how schools were notified.

Lawmakers also want details on Instructure’s coordination with CISA after hackers later defaced school login pages.

The case could increase scrutiny of edtech firms’ security practices and their obligations to protect student data after repeated intrusions.
