Googlebook won’t be locked to Intel as Qualcomm and MediaTek join the AI laptop push

Google is broadening its Googlebook laptop platform to support Qualcomm, Intel, and MediaTek chips, giving makers more choice.

Qualcomm confirmed it is working with Google on the project, while Google also wants flexibility across major PC chip suppliers.

Googlebook is being positioned as a premium, AI-first laptop line with deeper Android support and Gemini features.

The move suggests a shift away from low-cost Chromebooks toward higher-end devices from brands like Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo.
