What the 2026 State of Open Source report reveals about digital autonomy

Perforce OpenLogic’s 2026 State of Open Source report says organizations are increasingly adopting open source to reduce vendor lock-in and gain digital autonomy.

The survey of 700+ respondents found this motive is especially strong in Europe, where control and flexibility are becoming key drivers.

But large enterprises are also spending major engineering time on maintenance, vulnerability response, and remediation.

Many organizations still fail compliance audits because they rely on outdated open source components and end-of-life software.

The report underscores that open source can boost strategic control, but only if teams have the staffing and governance to manage added risk.
