Claude Code leak suggests Anthropic is working on a 'Proactive' mode for its coding tool

Anthropic released Claude Code update version 2.1.88 on Tuesday.

A file in that release exposed the app's source code, which was uploaded to a public GitHub repository.

The codebase was copied more than 50,000 times on GitHub and contains more than 512,000 lines across about 2,000 TypeScript files.

Alex Finn (founder of Creator Buddy) claimed to have found a flag for a 'Proactive mode'—which would let Claude Code act without user prompts—and also pointed to evidence of a crypto-based payment system; a Reddit post suggested a Tamagotchi-like virtual companion.

Anthropic said no sensitive customer data or credentials were exposed, described the incident as a release packaging issue caused by human error, said measures are being rolled out to prevent recurrence, and noted that written code for a feature does not guarantee it will ship.
