The Tesla Semi Is Here. Truck Makers Would Rather Sue Than Compete

The Tesla Semi is rolling out at scale as Europe’s largest truckmakers are battling climate policies in federal court.

Daimler Truck, Volvo Group and Traton filed motions through the Truck and Engine Manufacturers Association.

Those motions defend the Trump EPA’s repeal of the 2009 endangerment finding and the repeal of all motor vehicle climate standards.

The EMA filing characterized the standards as an unauthorized mandate to force a transition to electric vehicles.

Context: global EV sales reached 20.7 million in 2025, and in China more than half of new vehicle sales are electric.
