iOS 26.5 adds end-to-end encryption for RCS messaging, rolling out now

Apple’s iOS 26.5 update adds beta end-to-end encryption for RCS chats.

The feature is enabled by default in Messages, can be turned off in settings, and will roll out gradually by carrier.

Encrypted RCS threads show a lock icon, improving privacy for iPhone-to-Android messaging.

The update brings cross-platform texting closer to iMessage-level security.
