Curiosity Finds New Building Blocks of Life on Mars in Landmark Experiment

NASA’s Curiosity rover used a first-of-its-kind TMAH chemistry test on a Gale crater rock sample and detected more than 20 organic molecules.

The result includes compounds never before confirmed on Mars, strengthening evidence that the planet preserved organic chemistry for billions of years.

Researchers say the method could help future missions search on Mars for signs of past habitability and potential biosignatures directly on site.
