In Japan, buying a Pokémon card pack now requires more than money: your face is needed too

The Pokémon Company will add facial recognition at Japan-only Pokémon Card Store locations to curb scalping and improve security.

The system will track faces and visit counts to block repeat entry and multiple ticket attempts, starting with the Storm Emeralda release.

It builds on earlier anti-resale checks such as government ID verification and online photo review.

The move reflects growing concern over speculation, card-related crime, and broader safety issues in Japan.
