Tesla’s Cybercab has entered production. Let’s hope it can actually drive itself this time

Tesla says it began volume production of the steering-wheel-free Cybercab in April 2026, after first units came off the line in February.

Elon Musk shared a video of the robotaxi at Gigafactory Texas as Tesla pushes to launch a low-cost autonomous ride-hailing service.

The two-seat Cybercab is expected to cost under $30,000, but Tesla has not yet shown fully reliable unsupervised self-driving.

That leaves autonomy and safety as the key hurdles for a vehicle central to Tesla’s efforts to revive sales and build a robotaxi network.
