Quantum dot TVs beat RGB LED TVs, says the company that makes QDs for TVs

At Display Week, Nanosys compared two 85-inch TVs showing the same content: a quantum dot-backed mini-LED set and an RGB LED TV.

The quantum dot TV showed less color bleed and cleaner image rendering, while the RGB LED model exhibited visible crosstalk from its colored backlight.

Nanosys said the RGB LED approach can reduce measured BT.2020 color coverage and hurt color accuracy, especially in skin tones and fine details.

The demo suggests that although RGB LED backlights can boost color, they may also introduce color contamination and consistency issues.
