‘World’s first’ floating 45 MWh hydrogen hub validated to power ships without grid connection

A UK-backed maritime consortium validated a modular floating Hydrogen Power Hub after six months of testing.

The system uses three hexagonal platforms with battery storage, fuel cells, hydrogen generation, and solar power.

It can deliver up to 5MW of clean electricity directly to ships at berth without connecting to the local grid.

The grid-independent design could help ports deploy shore power faster and support maritime decarbonization.
