Amazon to Add 3.5% Fulfillment Surcharge as Fuel Costs Rise

Amazon will add a 3.5% fuel-and-logistics surcharge to Fulfillment by Amazon fees charged to third-party sellers.

The surcharge applies to sellers in the US and Canada beginning April 17 and was communicated to sellers on Thursday.

Amazon said the change reflects sustained higher fulfillment and logistics costs.

The fee averages about $0.17 per unit in the US, will vary by item size, and is much lower than surcharges from other major carriers.

USPS has proposed an 8% surcharge starting in April, which requires Postal Regulatory Commission approval.
