Google splits TPUv8 strategy into two chips, assigning Broadcom training and MediaTek inference duties

Google is reportedly splitting its next TPUv8 generation into two chips: TPUv8t Sunfish for training and TPUv8i Zebrafish for inference.

Broadcom is expected to design the training chip, while MediaTek will handle the inference variant.

The new parts may be announced around Google Cloud Next and replace the current TPUv7 Ironwood lineup.

TPUv8 is also expected to integrate closely with Google’s Axion Arm CPUs, potentially affecting the wider semiconductor supply chain.
