UK deploys $500M autonomous ‘Adventure’ minehunter system to neutralize naval mines

Adventure is a 12-meter uncrewed minehunting vessel now in Royal Navy service.

It was delivered on April 3, 2026 in Plymouth under a Franco‑British program led by Thales.

Adventure carries and deploys off‑board systems and can launch the SeaCat vehicle for wide‑area and close inspection.

Thales’ Towed Synthetic Aperture Multiview sonar provides detailed seabed imaging; AI recognition tools process sonar data to highlight threats.

Saab’s Double Eagle performs mine neutralization (multiple charges, to 300 m); Adventure is one of the first four deliveries in a €430 million program, with the UK contributing about £184 million.
