Building towards age prediction

OpenAI is building a system to estimate whether ChatGPT users are under 18 and automatically route them to age-appropriate settings.

If age cannot be determined confidently, ChatGPT will default to the under-18 experience for extra protection.

The company also plans new parental controls, including account linking, feature limits, blackout hours, and distress alerts.

In rare emergencies, OpenAI says it may escalate to law enforcement to help protect teens.
