Japan has had enough of tourists littering the streets. So it has started cracking down on them with police and fines

Shibuya has begun issuing on-the-spot fines and sending special police patrols to curb littering in crowded public areas.

The crackdown uses an existing cleanliness ordinance now amended to target public trashing more directly.

Shibuya also plans penalties for takeaway stalls and vending machines that do not place trash bins nearby.

The move reflects Japan’s broader effort to manage overtourism and protect street cleanliness and public order.
