Lockheed to upgrade radar brains of US Navy’s submarine-hunter MH-60R helicopters

The U.S. Navy awarded Lockheed Martin a $99.5 million contract to modernize the AN/APS-153 radar processor used on MH-60R Seahawk helicopters.

The work covers redesign, integration, and testing of a replacement data processor, with funding from Navy and foreign military sales accounts.

The upgrade is meant to preserve the MH-60R’s anti-submarine warfare edge against newer, quieter submarines without replacing the full radar system.

The effort is scheduled to be completed by April 2031 and supports allied users such as the Royal Australian Navy.
