Amazon Pushed Its Employees to Use Its In-House AI Coding Tool, But They Wouldn’t Stop Asking for Claude

Amazon is broadening employee access to Anthropic’s Claude Code and OpenAI’s Codex after workers pushed back on relying mainly on its own Kiro tool.

The company first tried to steer engineers toward Kiro and away from third-party AI coding tools, but later changed course.

The new tools will be available through AWS Bedrock, while Amazon says Kiro remains the primary option for most engineers.

The shift highlights how strong developer demand for rival AI assistants can outweigh a company’s push to use its own product.
