Meta Is Warned That Facial Recognition Glasses Will Arm Sexual Predators

More than 70 advocacy groups are urging Meta to scrap a reported facial-recognition feature for Ray-Ban and Oakley smart glasses.

Critics say the “Name Tag” tool could let wearers identify strangers in public without their consent, creating stalking and abuse risks.

They also warn it could be misused by federal agents and other actors, deepening civil-liberties concerns around biometric identification.

Meta says it has not launched such a feature and would move cautiously if it ever did.
