Japan Meteorological Agency Decides to Call Days with Highs of 40°C or Above 'Extreme Heat Days'

Japan Meteorological Agency has decided to call days with a high of 40°C or above “kokushobi” (extreme heat day).

The name was chosen from 13 candidates based on a public survey and expert input, receiving the strongest support.

As 40°C-plus heat becomes more common, the new term is expected to be used in warnings and news coverage.
