FCC filing shows Amazon plans to acquire Apple's 20% stake in Globalstar

Amazon has filed with the FCC to transfer control of Globalstar licenses as part of its $11.6 billion acquisition of the satellite company.

The filing says Amazon would take over Apple’s 20% equity and voting interest in Globalstar after the deal closes.

Amazon says the transaction should not disrupt Globalstar’s current service to Apple, including Emergency SOS via satellite.

The move could also help Amazon build a broader direct-to-device satellite network for smartphones and other mobile devices.
