PCIe 8.0 spec hits 1 TB/s of bandwidth and has new connector technology — spec hits 0.5V milestone, final ratification expected in 2028

PCI-SIG has released PCIe 8.0 draft spec 0.5, setting key goals for the next-gen interconnect.

The draft targets 256 GT/s links and up to 1 TB/s bidirectional bandwidth on x16 lanes.

It preserves backward compatibility while advancing protocol features such as PAM4, FEC, and Flit Mode.

PCI-SIG is also evaluating new connector technology to address signal-integrity challenges at these speeds.

Final ratification is still expected in 2028, giving vendors a stable target for prototyping.
