Next-generation national research network 'KOREN 6.0' upgraded…Fully enhanced with AI network

The Ministry of Science and ICT and NIA have begun planning KOREN 6.0, an upgraded national research testbed for 6G and AI network technologies.
The roadmap targets budget securing next year, construction starting in 2028, and completion in 2031, with major expansion across backbone, regional, access, AIDC internal, and submarine cable networks.
KOREN 6.0 will greatly increase network capacity and provide a stronger environment for testing agentic AI and autonomous networking.
Research and test networks will be separated so each can focus on its role: AI education and startup support on one side, and equipment and component validation on the other.
The project aims for TM Forum autonomous network level 5 and is expected to support 6G commercialization, domestic telecom equipment competitiveness, and AI infrastructure growth.
