'Sega Universe' Initiative Announced, Celebrating Multiple Classics With Anniversary Projects

Sega has launched a Japan-only “Sega Universe” initiative to celebrate anniversaries for classic franchises like OutRun, NiGHTS, and Sakura Wars.

The program will support multiple older series with special projects, but Sega says those efforts may go beyond games.

Planned tie-ins could include film, music, fashion, and merchandise, expanding how Sega uses its legacy IP.

The move raises hopes for renewed attention on dormant franchises, even if it does not promise new game releases right away.
