Intel tells PC makers to adopt 18A CPUs or lose their supply, report claims — Intel 7 supply dries up, pressuring notebook and PC manufacturers in the US, China, and Taiwan

Intel is reportedly tightening supply of older Intel 7 client chips and shifting capacity toward higher-margin server and industrial customers.

PC makers are being pushed to build more systems around 18A-based Panther Lake and Wildcat Lake CPUs or risk losing allocations.

The move could speed adoption of Intel’s newest process node while forcing OEMs in the U.S., China, and Taiwan to redesign product plans.

It may also raise manufacturing costs and further prioritize scarce supply for server and industrial chips such as Xeon 6.
