AMD’s Ryzen AI Max 400 chip offers 192GB of memory, but getting your hands on one is another story

AMD announced the Ryzen AI Max 400 series, a modest update to its previous generation with Zen 5, RDNA 3.5, and XDNA 2 cores plus a slight boost on the top model.

The headline feature is up to 192GB of unified memory, aimed at running very large local AI models on x86 PCs, including 300B+ parameter LLMs.

AMD says the chip could power compact systems for on-device AI, positioning it against high-memory setups like Apple’s Mac Studio.

But major OEM systems from Asus, HP, and Lenovo are not expected until Q3 2026, and tight DRAM supply could slow shipments and adoption.
