A Science study analyzed 27 fossil jaws from Japan and Canada to reconstruct two giant octopus species from the Cretaceous.

One species may have measured 7 to 19 meters long, pointing to octopuses as top predators in ancient seas about 100 million years ago.

The findings reshape the Cretaceous marine food web and show cephalopods shared ocean dominance with mosasaurs and plesiosaurs.
