Alibaba Unveils New AI Chip, Zhenwu M890, as China Pushes Harder to Break Nvidia Dependence

Alibaba introduced the Zhenwu M890 AI chip from T-Head, saying it is roughly 3x faster than the previous Zhenwu 810E.

The company also laid out a chip roadmap through 2028 and a rack design using 128 M890 chips for large-scale AI workloads.

Alibaba says the chips will be available immediately through Alibaba Cloud, supporting enterprise AI and agentic systems.

The move reflects China’s push to build homegrown semiconductors and reduce dependence on Nvidia as U.S. export controls tighten.
