Tesla Pulls 2nm AI Chip Production Onto US Soil, Splitting AI6 and AI6.5 Between Samsung Texas and TSMC Arizona

Tesla plans to split its next custom AI chips across U.S. fabs, with AI6 made at Samsung’s Texas site and AI6.5 at TSMC’s Arizona site.

Both chips are expected to use 2nm-class process technology, underscoring Tesla’s push into advanced custom silicon.

Elon Musk said AI5 has recently taped out ahead of schedule, and the newer chips should deliver higher performance plus updated memory support.

The move could strengthen supply security while supporting Tesla’s broader AI ambitions across Tesla, xAI, and SpaceX.
