Two former Opexus workers were tied to a major insider cybercrime after being fired from the federal contractor.

Prosecutors said the Akhter brothers deleted about 96 government databases and stole additional files from agencies including the State Department and EEOC.

Sohaib Akhter was later convicted by a federal jury, while Muneeb Akhter had already struck a plea deal and tried to undo it.

The case underscores how quickly terminated insiders can damage sensitive systems if access is not cut off immediately.
