US to build first quantum wafer foundry with IBM to scale next-gen computing

IBM and the U.S. Commerce Department plan to launch Anderon, a dedicated quantum wafer foundry in Albany, New York.

The project will receive $1 billion in federal incentives and $1 billion from IBM to build 300-millimeter quantum wafer manufacturing.

Anderon is designed to supply multiple companies, helping shift quantum computing from lab-scale work to industrial production.

The move is meant to strengthen U.S. competitiveness, supply chains, and national security in quantum hardware.
