Government to convert 18,000 CCTV cameras to AI, with large-scale adoption of domestic NPU chips

The Ministry of Science and ICT and NIA are pushing a 11.68 billion won project to convert public CCTV systems to AI using domestic NPU chips.

The plan will install Rebellions, DEEPX, and Mobilint NPUs in control centers for Gyeongnam, Ulsan, and Korea Expressway Corporation.

The upgrade targets 18,100 public CCTV cameras, enabling real-time video analytics for faster disaster and accident detection and response.

If deployed at scale, the project could boost public safety while accelerating adoption of Korean-made AI semiconductor technology.
