Belgium stops decommissioning nuclear power plants

Belgium is reversing its planned nuclear phaseout and will keep two reactors running longer.

The deal with Engie covers continued operation of Doel 4 and Tihange 3 instead of shutting them on schedule.

The move is aimed at strengthening Belgium’s electricity supply and energy security.

It also adds to Europe’s broader debate over extending the life of existing nuclear plants.
