Here’s how NASA cleared the iPhone 17 Pro Max for astronauts on Artemis II

NASA cleared four iPhone 17 Pro Max units to fly on Artemis II for taking photos and videos only.

Apple did not participate in NASA’s approval process and the phones cannot use internet or Bluetooth in flight.

NASA’s hardware approval follows four phases: safety introduction, hazard identification, mitigation planning, and validation.

NASA evaluated shatterable materials and mounting methods, and phones were stowed using Velcro or suit pockets.
