Physicists Found String Theory Without Even Looking for It

Physicists at Caltech, NYU, and IEEC used a bootstrap method to study extreme particle scattering with only a few basic assumptions.

Their calculations reproduced classic string theory signatures, including an infinite tower of particles and ordered mass-spin relationships.

The work suggests string-theory-like mathematics can emerge from general scattering principles, offering a new indirect path for quantum gravity research.

The findings were published in Physical Review Letters and build on ideas associated with Veneziano and modern high-energy theory.
