Japanese government and major financial institutions secure access to OpenAI's new model, bolstering cyber defenses

The Japanese government and three major banks secured access to OpenAI’s new AI model, GPT5.5 Cyber.

The model will be used to spot vulnerabilities and help fix them, strengthening defenses for financial systems.

Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama said she also met OpenAI CSO Jason Kwon as part of the effort.

The move reflects growing concern over misuse of advanced AI and a push to use it for cyber defense.
