Google plans to produce up to 15 million AI chips by 2028, rivaling Nvidia's total accelerator volume

Google is reportedly planning to produce and deploy 12 million to 15 million ninth-generation TPUs by 2028.

That scale could rival Nvidia’s data center GPU shipments and make Google one of the biggest AI accelerator buyers.

The effort would require huge manufacturing and advanced packaging capacity, with TSMC CoWoS-L likely not covering all demand and Intel Foundry possibly involved.

If it happens, Google could reduce reliance on Nvidia and gain much tighter control over its AI infrastructure supply chain.
