U.S. court rejects xAI’s request to halt Minnesota deepfake ban law, saying it was filed three days ago after a three-month delay

A federal judge in Minnesota denied xAI’s request to block the state’s new deepfake nude image law.

Judge Donovan Frank said xAI waited too long to seek emergency relief, filing only days before the law took effect.

The court converted the request into a preliminary injunction case and scheduled further briefing and an Aug. 19 hearing.

The law remains in force for now, keeping the dispute over deepfake regulation and free speech active.
