Microsoft Edge to change how it loads saved passwords into memory as plaintext at startup

Microsoft says Edge will stop decrypting and loading saved passwords into memory at startup.

The change, already in Canary and rolling out to other channels, shortens the time passwords sit in plaintext process memory.

That reduces the risk that malware or a privileged local attacker can extract credentials from a running browser.

The update strengthens Edge’s defense-in-depth approach to password security.
