Raytheon software splits Navy radar to hunt threats and guide missiles at once

Raytheon won a Navy research contract to develop software-defined radar for ships.

The software aims to let one radar handle threat tracking, targeting, and surveillance across separate modules.

It is designed to reduce interference and use crowded spectrum more efficiently, including near 5G bands.

If successful, Navy warships could upgrade radar capabilities through software instead of costly hardware redesigns.
