BMW brings color-changing tech closer to production with the iX3 Flow Edition

BMW unveiled the iX3 Flow Edition at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, a color-changing EV concept with E Ink Prism tech built into the hood.

Unlike earlier full-body or segmented ideas, the new approach is designed to be more durable and easier to manufacture.

The system allows limited grayscale color changes, aiming for a more practical path toward programmable vehicle surfaces.

BMW says the concept could also offer energy-saving benefits by helping with thermal management.
