Generative AI Videos and Audio: Organizing Rights Infringements Caused by Unauthorized Use; Japan's Justice Ministry Sets Up a Review Panel

Japan’s Justice Ministry has launched a study panel to clarify rights violations involving unauthorized AI-generated use of celebrities’ faces and voices.

The eight-member panel of academics and lawyers will examine civil liability, damage claims, and who can file suits, using case law and current law as a basis.

Its findings are expected to be compiled into guidelines by July, offering a framework for disputes over portrait and publicity rights.
